Engineering of soil and rock is different to the typical structural materials due to the variations in strength and composition. 

If you dont have enough data, the extent of variations may not be identified, or designed in to foundation assessments.  

Brownfield and greenfield sites are often subject to planning conditions related to contaminated land. 

For good reasons these need to be discharged as soon as possible, but if you have to leave it to the last minute then adopt a strategy to get it right. 

All businesses need to comply with the waste duty of care. 

Non-compliance can be super-expensive if your strategy has unauthorised landfill and HMRC investigate with penalties of more than £200/m3 possible.  

Company officers can protect themselves from their company's waste mistakes by making policy for following the duty of care.
